The Toolcraft 458 SOCOM Bolt Carrier Group with Diamond-Like Carbon finish is built specifically for large-bore AR-15 platforms chambered in .458 SOCOM. Using a 9310 steel bolt and full-mass 8620 steel M16-profile carrier, this BCG combines caliber-specific bolt geometry with one of Toolcraft’s hardest and slickest surface treatments for demanding AR builds.

The bolt is shot peened and Magnetic Particle Inspected for quality control, while the extractor is machined from 4140 steel and supported by a Mil-Spec O-ring and triple gas rings. The larger .458 SOCOM bolt face is engineered around the cartridge’s substantial case head while retaining standard AR-15 carrier dimensions.

Toolcraft’s DLC finish provides exceptional surface hardness, wear resistance, corrosion protection, and lubricity. The coating carries a Rockwell hardness rating of approximately 90 and operates effectively with minimal lubrication while helping prevent carbon fouling from bonding aggressively to the carrier surfaces. In many cases, routine fouling can be wiped away with substantially less effort than with conventional phosphate finishes.

The 8620 steel carrier uses a full-auto M16 profile to retain standard reciprocating mass, an important consideration in large-bore AR configurations. A 4130 steel gas key is secured with Grade 8 fasteners and properly staked, while forward assist serrations, an 8620 steel cam pin, and a 416 stainless steel firing pin complete the assembly.

DLC Finish for Large-Bore AR Builds

Diamond-Like Carbon gives this .458 SOCOM BCG a different performance profile from Toolcraft’s Nickel Boron and Black Nitride versions. DLC combines extremely high surface hardness with low friction, helping reduce wear on reciprocating components while making carbon buildup easier to remove during maintenance.

The 9310 steel bolt is engineered around the large .458 SOCOM case head and is shot peened and MPI inspected before assembly. A 4140 steel extractor, Mil-Spec O-ring, and triple gas rings support reliable extraction and gas sealing in properly configured .458 SOCOM AR-15 systems.

Full-Mass M16 Carrier

The 8620 steel carrier uses the heavier M16 profile rather than a reduced-mass configuration. This preserves conventional reciprocating mass and cycling characteristics, making it particularly appropriate for the operating demands of a large-bore cartridge such as .458 SOCOM.
