The Toolcraft 224 Valkyrie Bolt Carrier Group with Diamond-Like Carbon finish is built for AR-15 rifles chambered in .224 Valkyrie. This full-auto M16-profile BCG combines a 9310 steel bolt with an 8620 steel carrier and a hard, low-friction DLC treatment for smooth cycling, strong wear resistance, and easier maintenance.
The .224 Valkyrie uses the same larger bolt-face family as 6.8 SPC, allowing the cartridge to operate within a standard AR-15 carrier system. Toolcraft shot peens and Magnetic Particle Inspects the 9310 bolt for quality control, then pairs it with a 4140 steel extractor, Mil-Spec extractor O-ring, and triple gas rings for dependable extraction and gas sealing.
The Diamond-Like Carbon finish is one of the defining features of this configuration. Toolcraft’s DLC treatment provides approximately 90 Rockwell surface hardness along with excellent lubricity, wear resistance, and corrosion protection. The slick surface also helps prevent carbon from adhering as aggressively as it does to traditional phosphate finishes, making routine cleanup easier.
The 8620 steel carrier uses a full-mass M16 profile to preserve conventional AR-15 cycling characteristics. A 4130 steel gas key is secured with Grade 8 fasteners and properly staked, while an 8620 steel cam pin and 416 stainless steel firing pin complete the assembly.

This bolt carrier group uses the larger bolt-face geometry required by the .224 Valkyrie cartridge while retaining standard AR-15 carrier dimensions. That allows builders to assemble a dedicated .224 Valkyrie upper without moving to a large-frame operating system.
Diamond-Like Carbon Finish
DLC gives this BCG a distinctly different performance profile from Toolcraft’s Nickel Boron and Black Nitride versions. Its extremely hard, slick surface helps reduce friction between reciprocating components, resists wear and corrosion, and makes carbon fouling easier to remove during maintenance.
9310 Bolt and Full-Mass Carrier
The 9310 steel bolt is paired with a full-mass 8620 steel M16-profile carrier to maintain conventional AR-15 reciprocating weight and cycling characteristics. The carrier also includes forward assist serrations and a properly staked 4130 steel gas key secured with Grade 8 hardware.
