This caliber started as a black-powder revolver caliber to be used in the Colt Single Action Army revolver.??The United States Army started using the 45 Long Colt in 1873.? This caliber served the Army for over 18 years.? The proper name for this caliber is just .45 Colt and can be also named .45 LC as well.? Please do not confuse the caliber with today’s very popular?.45 ACP round.? Due to the recent popular Cowboy Action Shooting competitions, the .45 Long Colt?is becoming popular again.
Also, handgun hunters and metallic silhouette shooters use the caliber for their shooting sports.? The .45 Colt is the basis for the .454 Casull caliber.? This caliber is longer and uses stronger brass.? A .460 Magnum revolver can also shoot the .454 Casull and .45 Long Colt calibers.? Because the brass is?from an indoor range, it will clean up with very little effort.? If you would like Arm or Ally to clean the brass for you, please let us know.?
