The “spoon over a cheese grater” sound emitted by modern sporting rifles when charged or fired has always been one of the AR platform’s ugly blemishes and one that the JP 9mm Silent Captured Spring eliminates.  After years of selectively selecting buffer tube manufacturers based on the quality of their tubes’ interior finish, JP opted to design and produce the JP AR15 Silent Captured Spring with a perfectly centerless-ground, precision-polished outside diameter.  These JPSCS are an inexpensive way to see exactly why JP has a reputation for the quietest, smoothest rifles available.

Our pursuit of perfection didn’t stop with springs and ultimately led to the creation of the patented Silent Captured Spring in 2012. Maintaining the benefits of our polished buffer springs and proprietary LMOS™ buffer, this combination buffer-spring assembly eliminates friction from standard buffer components, resulting in outstanding smoothness and sound abatement.

The spring is removable from the assembly for custom tuning.  Both the AR-15 and AR-10 versions of the JPSCS are compatible with rifle- and carbine-length operating systems.  The AR15 version fits and functions in any gas-operated AR15 variant, regardless of caliber.  Also, the AR10 version should fit and function in any large-frame AR10-type platform. The JPSCS is not compatible with any 9mm AR variant or any blowback system using a solid (weighted) carrier.

Gen 2 Improvements

Generation 2 Improvements include a new aluminum guide rod, reducing the overall weight.  Heavier masses translate to more buffering mass and a reduced chance of bolt bounce.  There’s now full correspondence between the silent captured spring masses and the H1, H2, and H3 buffers.  The interchangeable buffers enable conversion between AR15 and AR10 models.

Compatibility

The 9mm silent-capture spring requires an open channel in your 9mm bolt assembly for the guide rod to pass through during firing. For most bolts, this will require removing the pinned-in central mass. To function with the SCS, this central mass must be removable, and the bolt must still be at its full length without it.  Lastly, refer to the instructions link below for more.
